"Large Room" – Briefing

  • What: Our first goal is to know the customer and their needs, feasibility, priorities, and expectations
  • How: We meet with the customer in person or remotely to engage in dialogue, where they can record their ideas, regardless of how obscure they may seem initially.
    Outcome: Understand the desired product or process output or the needed consultations, the target geographical region, and the required product features and classify as new, line extension, and me too. This step is necessary to communicate what you are looking for and dialogue on feasibility, priorities, and expectations. We understand the reason behind your product development (e.g., Health & environmental issues [sustainable packaging]; profitability [compliance], technological development, increasing demand for convenience foods, societal changes) or challenges and constraints related to labelling, non-compliance management, supplier relationship management, and regulations.

"Wide View" – Market & Product

  • What: Understanding strength, weakness, opportunities and threats against the availability, affordability, accessibility, of your chosen product and overall competition of the chosen idea.
  • How: We present this to you in person or virtually.
    Outcome: The idea prototype would shed light on industry, market, and competitors product in terms of new regulations, consumer trends, technology trends, and many more. Beside, we also identify the major product features.

Idea Prototyping

  • What: Our first goal is to develop an idea prototype based on the gap report in terms of a value proposition chart. We list the specifications needed to design the product.
  • How: We present this to you in person or virtually.
    Outcome: The idea prototype would shed light on diet-related factors, health, size, shape, shelf-life, weight, and sensory characteristics, including color, flavour, taste, texture, smell, packaging size or features (e.g., edible, micro packaging, smart, antimicrobial, water-soluble, self-heating) and regulations if any.

Art + Science - Feasibility Study

  • What: Our first goal is to identify the gap between the client’s and competitor’s products.
  • How: We conduct ingredient, packaging and pricing specifications through competitors’ products.
    Outcome: We present the output on costs associated with developing a new product and costs to the manufacturer (equipment, source of new ingredients) [cost and market focused pricing models]. We conduct regulatory and food safety innovation checks, and science-based idea realization

Formulation of Protocept

  • What: Post scrutinization of suppliers and their raw materials, machines, and packaging materials, we develop a recipe based on the information gathered from the above step.
  • How: Desk-based research and present this to you in person or virtually
    Outcome: We develop a formulation prototype by creating a recipe that consists of ingredients with quantity, allergens, shelf-life, testing, claims, regulatory, nutrition calculation, costs calculation and types of equipment. We shortlist initial ideas generated in the design specification, and those ideas which best meet the design specification will be moved to the product development stage. We also partner with the raw material suppliers through national and international suppliers from our source or work with your suppliers.

‘Solution’ Product Development

  • What: We develop the actual product prototype.
    How: Our state-of-the-art development lab supports your product development requirements.
  • Outcome: Develop a product that successfully clears sensory, physicochemical, nutritional, shelf-life testing, and other specific testing compared to the gold standard / competitor / or called a control sample.

Batch Testing / Pilot production / start-up of commercial production

  • What: Develop small-scale testing for product optimization and offer scale-up assistance for start-ups
  • How: With our well-equipped pilot-scale facilities allows us to conduct scale-up trials. We take feedback from targeted customers and determine if any modifications are required.
    Outcome: We repeat sensory, physicochemical, nutritional, and other specific testing to ensure our lab-scale and pilot have similar output. We also specify manufacturing specifications during this stage, including product, packaging, equipment, costing, supplier information, design and regulations, and quality control checklists (e.g., weight checks, visual checks, temperature, pH). Based on the requirement, we also help clients with innovation protection through the national and international patient (PCT).
