Food Research Lab – Twin Screw Extruder

Food Research Lab – Twin Screw Extruder

The twin-screw Extruder present in our pilot plant is predominantly used for manufacturing puffed food items. This Extruder is based on a single screw extruder; two screws are placed side by side in the Extruder cylinder instead of one. The screws rotate in the same direction and provide transport, friction, extrusion and heating. Twin-screw extruders are more efficient and easy to operate.

The concept is simple. Mechanical energy is converted into heat energy, and the food materials are squeezed, cooked and extruded by the heat as the machine rotates. Raw materials such as rice, wheat, corn or soybean are fed in and are extruded. They are formed into triangular, hexagonal or any other shape and size that suits the manufacturer’s requirements by rolling and stamping. Later, flavours are added by baking, frying, seasoning, etc. The main feature of extruded food items is their large surface area. Since we use the positive displacement principle, forced extrusion is carried out without pressure reflux

Changing the mould can indefinitely change the shape and size of the food product. Using this extrusion technology, Food Research Lab can contract manufacture various food products such as bread, instant rice noodles, soup, breakfast cereals, textured vegetable protein, candy, snacks, sandwich puffed food, and flavouring foods much more per client requirements.

A variety of feeding modes and feeding units are available for

  • The linear bearings blade is safe, fast and precise.
  • Bearing capacity is strong
  • A cooling system with automatic circulation can maintain temperature precisely
  • Efficient energy consumption
