Wild Recall of cherry drinks
Products Recalled:
5560 cases of Kraft Heinz wild cherry flavoured Capri sun drinks were recalled due to the presence of a diluted cleaning solution dated with an expiry of 25-06-2023 with UPC code 08768400100 4. This issue was spotted as various customers complained about the change in product taste.
Problem: The product may have the potential presence of a cleaning solution. This is against the HACCP and CGMP-related regulations, which come under 21 CFR of FDA and section 114 of FDAMA (food and drug administration modernization act). This is a critical issue involving hygienic food practices to be followed in industries to avoid contamination. The CIP (cleaning in place ) practices in the company could have had some defects.
Scientific Evidence: Cleaning solutions impact human health, causing asthma and eczema, as per research reports. So this can affect the human body if ingested through beverages at a higher rate than daily cleaning usage. Even though, inadvertently, the after-effects cannot be controlled. The cleaning solutions’ presence might cause human gut issues. The anti-bacterial cleaning product is not good for health, as per ICMR.
What does regulation clarify
21CFR (Code of federal regulations) 117.40 about the cleaning utensils and equipment mentions the type of cleaning solutions to be used and how to maintain sanitary practices so as to avoid contamination in the food and beverages are highlighted. The 117. 40 a. 5,6 mentions this very specifically.
