Recall of Foster Farms Fully Cooked Frozen Chicken Patty

Products Recalled:

About 148,000 pounds of cooked frozen chicken breast patty products have been recalled by Foster Farms, a Farmerville, La. Establishment on October 29 2022.

The product is available in 80-oz. plastic packaging having 20 pieces of “CHICKEN PATTIES BREADED CHICKEN BREAST PATTIES WITH RIB MEAT”. The use-by date is 08/11/2023, lot code “3*2223**” and establishment number “P-33901”. The number mentioned under the barcode is “7527899724”.

Problem:

  • The chicken products may have been contaminated with hard, clear plastic pieces. The fully cooked, frozen and breaded chicken breast patties were developed on August 11, 2022.
  • The problem came to light when the FSIS was notified by the firm that it had received complaints from the consumers that clear and rigid plastic were embedded in fully cooked, frozen and breaded chicken breast patties with a use-by date of August 11, 2023 [1].

Scientific Evidence:

  • Foreign materials can cause serious health effects such as internal organ damage and choking.

What Regulations Clarifies:

  • Foreign objects measuring below 7 mm barely cause trauma except in some susceptible individuals like infants, the elderly and surgery patients.
  • The food product is considered adulterated if it had a sharp object of length 7 to 25 mm long and is a ready-to-cook item [2].
