Recall of cosmetic product for hair due to the presence of serious microbiological risk
Products Recalled:
A hair detangler under the Brand Baylis and Harding, Goodness Watermelon burst, has been recalled. The product, which comes under the category of a cosmetic, is sold online.
Problem: According to the European Commission, Baylis & Harding Goodness Watermelon Burst has been recalled since the product was tainted with an aerobic mesophilic bacterium called Pluralibactor gergoviae. The contamination load was 3000 cfu/g, which is against cosmetic regulations. A corrective action plan includes the withdrawal of the product from end users.[1]
Scientific Evidence:
When used on damaged skin or mucous membranes, the product has the potential to irritate or infect the skin.
Product Image:What Regulations Clarifies:
- Primary contamination by microorganisms can happen during production and consumer usage.
- EU Council Directive 76/768/EEC governs cosmetic items. These regulations were approved on July 27, 1976, and on September 27, 1976, they were published in the “L 262” edition of the Official Journal of the European Communities. Since then, it has been continuously changing and advancing with technology.
- It is widely agreed upon that the total viable count for aerobic mesophyllic bacteria in Category 1 cosmetics should not exceed 102 CFU/g or 102 CFU/mL of the product. [2]
