Regulatory Actions: Great Value has taken action by voluntarily recalling their Organic BlackChia Seeds, and here’s why: It was stated that ,There’s a possibility they might contain Salmonella. But as of now there is no danger due to that product, as the U.S. Food and Drug Administration and the great value company are working together to make sure everything meets the rules. [1]
Scientific evidence: This pathogen poses a significant health risk. The transmission of this bacteria is often associated with animal-derived food (particularly poultry and products). Antibiotics are the main treatment for this pathogen. But there has been a riseof antibiotic-resistant strains that underscores the need for alternative solutions. [3] To prevent Salmonella contamination, control measures must be implemented across the entire food chain, from farming to processing. At home, preventive measures against Salmonella are similar to those for other foodborne illnesses, particularly for food handlers. Close supervision is necessary when infants or young children interact with pet animals, like cats, dogs, and turtles, which may carry Salmonella.[4]
Safety reminder: Consumers are directed to throw away products subject to the recall. Natural Sourcing International will provide replacement product upon proof of purchase. [1] If you’ve consumed any of the recalled products and start experiencing symptoms of Salmonella infection, it’s important to seek medical help. Make sure to inform your doctor about the potential exposure to Salmonella bacteria, as specific tests are required to diagnose salmonellosis.
