FDA has posted a voluntary recall of Lipari Foods Due to Undeclared Cashew Allergen
Products Recalled:
A recall of specific batches of sunflower meat tubs and sesame stick mix[1].
Problem:
- Sesame sticks mix and roasted and salted sunflower meat tub products from the sister company JLM are recalled since they contain an undeclared allergen, cashews (tree nuts).
- If one ingests these items, they risk having a severe or even fatal allergic response if they are allergic to cashews or have a significant sensitivity to them.
Scientific Evidence:
- With the expanding consumption of this nut, the prevalence of cashew nut allergies appears to be increasing in industrialised nations.
- The allergic patients should cut out cashew nuts from their meals because there is still no solution for this allergy or any other food allergy. Because of this, allergic consumers must carefully select commercially accessible processed foods and rely on accurate food labelling [2].

An addition to the Federal Food, Drug, and Cosmetic Act is FALCPA. It mandates that the presence of an allergy must be disclosed on the label of any item that has a component from a “major food allergen” in the way required by law.
