Background:

One of the clients approached us with a vision of creating a functional beverage aimed at improving gut health. The product was designed to cater to the increasing demand for microbiome-friendly, natural products. The client’s goal was to develop a drink that could be positioned as a daily health supplement with clinically proven ingredients, catering to health-conscious consumers. 

Objective:

The objective was to create a beverage that would:

Solution & Formulation by Food Research Lab:

The product was formulated using a combination of ingredients known for their gut health benefits. The ingredients were carefully chosen to offer a balanced nutritional profile with no added sugars and low calories per serving. 

Key ingredients and their roles: 

  • Fructo-oligosaccharide: A prebiotic fiber to improve gut flora. 
  • Turmeric & Aloe vera – anti-inflammatory property and Soothening effect & also promotes gut health 
  • Probiotic-rich ingredients 
  • Kokum Agal & Triphala: Traditional Ayurvedic ingredients known for digestion support. 
  • Fenugreek Powder & Cumin Extract: Added to support digestion and gut health. 
  • Green Tea Extract & Rosemary Extract: Included for antioxidant properties. 

The beverage’s nutritional profile was optimized to provide a low-calorie, high-fiber drink with 0g of sugar. 

Execution: The client worked with food scientists and regulatory experts to fine-tune the product’s formulation. Special attention was given to ensuring the stability of natural ingredients, which were known for their beneficial properties but posed challenges in terms of preservation. A safe and approved natural preservative was included to ensure shelf life without compromising the natural formulation. 

Success Factors: 

  1. Clear Positioning: The product was marketed as “microbiome-friendly,” emphasizing its health benefits and 100% natural formulation. 
  2. Nutritional Transparency: The nutrition label clearly highlighted the absence of added sugars and artificial ingredients, aligning with consumer demand for transparency.

  4. Consumer Adoption: Thanks to its clear benefits, natural ingredients, and appealing packaging, the product was well-received by health-conscious consumers.
