Today’s Task
Event: Today, I planned to work on the nutritional requirements of an energy drink.
How I felt it (initially before implementing the task): I find formulating innovative products exciting.
Actual Task:Product formulation
Energy drink consumption has increased substantially in recent decades. Energy drinks consist of significant quantities of caffeine and sugar, and in recent years, energy drinks have been formulated using natural ingredients. Three things are considered when preparing a ready to drink energy drink. i.e., caffeine content, ingredient selection and combination and flavour masking. Once all the ingredients were collected, the energy drink was formulated using natural sources of caffeine, sweetener and real fruit juice flavours. The energy drink was formulated per the client’s requirement of colour, taste, flavour, nutritional content and acceptance level. The energy drink was later carbonated and packed in tin cans. The product was evaluated for its nutritional profile and shelf-life analysis.

The Food Research Lab formulated an instant energy drink with natural ingredients that matched the client’s requirements for colour, flavour and nutritional profile.

The energy drink had an excellent sensory profile since it was formulated after lab trials. However, we would like to do further trials to study the product’s shelf life.
I should have carried out a better formulation as a next step with improved shelf life.
